Evangelistria
The “Evangelistria”, one of the last genuine Aegean-type “perama” sailing ships, was built in Syros in 1940 by the famous shipbuilder Mavrikos and his children, having been commissioned by the Myconian shipmaster Antonios K. Bonis.
She has an approximate capacity of 90 tons with an overall length of 20 m. and a breadth of 6.38 m. She was equipped with two masts and sails: gaff with trysail and mast, spinnaker and jib with a total area of 220 m2. In her time she was a proud and beautiful commercial vessel which “ploughed” the Aegean. Wherever she appeared, she aroused emotions.
The “Evangelistria” was used as a mean of transportation between the Aegean islands in times of need from the time of her construction until 1978
